Web GIS and Mobile Mapping Platform Development

Updated: Jun 9

In-House Systems for Visualizing LiDAR, Aerial Imagery, and Geospatial Data

Custom web and mobile applications enabling large-scale geospatial data visualization, analysis, and field access.

Project Summary

OGL Engineering develops in-house geospatial workflows encompassing LiDAR and imagery processing, location data management, and broader geospatial data integration. A key component of these workflows is the Web Map Viewer, a web-based platform capable of visualizing large raster and vector datasets efficiently. In addition, we design and implement mobile applications that bring geospatial data and mapping tools directly to field teams, ensuring access to accurate information anytime, anywhere. These tools together support streamlined data visualization, analysis, and operational decision-making across diverse workflows.

Problem / Objective

Organizations often face challenges managing, analyzing, and visualizing large and complex geospatial datasets, particularly across multiple platforms and locations. The objective of this project was to develop a flexible, high-performance system that could:

  • Efficiently process and manage LiDAR, imagery, and location datasets internally

  • Provide responsive, web- and mobile-based access for visualisation and analysis

  • Integrate seamlessly with GIS workflows and operational systems

  • Support field and office teams with consistent, reliable geospatial data

Approach

Our approach leverages in-house development expertise to build scalable workflows and applications. Our processing pipelines manage the full geospatial workflow, transforming raw LiDAR, imagery, and location data into final, GIS-ready output. AI is applied selectively to assist with feature extraction and data optimization, improving efficiency without replacing core processes. The Web Map Viewer and mobile applications form part of an integrated ecosystem, allowing full control over geospatial data from acquisition through visualization, analysis, and field deployment.

Technologies & Methodologies

  • LiDAR and aerial imagery processing

  • Location data integration and geospatial data management

  • Custom software development for web and mobile platforms

  • Web GIS frameworks with optimised raster/vector rendering

  • Mobile applications for real-time field data access

  • AI-assisted workflows for data optimisation and feature extraction

Outcome / Lessons Learned

By developing geospatial workflows and tools internally, including web and mobile platforms, our team can manage large and complex datasets efficiently while maintaining consistent quality. This approach enables seamless integration between office and field operations, improves accessibility of geospatial data, and demonstrates the value of a skilled in-house development team in delivering tailored, high-performance geospatial solutions.
